Aberfeldy

Page history last edited by PBworks 17 years, 3 months ago

Aberfeldy are an indie pop band formed in Edinburgh in 2002.

In 2004 Aberfeldy signed to Rough Trade Records before releasing their first album and several singles.

Riley Briggs, the singer guy, used to be in a garage band called Greathead Beans.

As well as touring throughout the UK, Aberfeldy have supported R.E.M. at their Loch Lomond gig, and Blondie and the Scissor Sisters at Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations (2004), and played at T in the Park (2005). Aberfeldy received funding from the Scottish Arts Council to travel to Austin, Texas to play at the 2005 and 2006 South by Southwest Festival.

Several Aberfeldy songs were used in the soundtrack of Gamerz, a Scottish comedy film, while the song "Summer's Gone" was used in Argentina to advertise Quilmes beer, named after an Fussball team there.

Singer Ruth Barrie is also a documentary film maker. Her 2005 film, "Gold Fever" is an Autonomi Production for Scottish TV, Grampian TV and Scottish Screen, written and directed by Ruth and produced by Alice Stilgoe. It is a musical documentary about gold panning in Scotland, with music and performances from Aberfeldy. The documentary is narrated by Sandy Wright. Sandy is the writer of one of Aberfeldy's most popular songs, "Tom Weir", about the iconic Scottish climber, author and broadcaster. Ruth's other films include the 2004 documentary "One true Path", a look at Muslim culture in Scotland and the short film "Chicken and Egg?".

Original drummer Ian Stoddart (one time member of Win) departed in late 2005 and was replaced by Murray Briggs, formerly of the Anarcho/street punk band Oi Polloi.

Aberfeldy toured the UK in May/June 2006. For part of that tour Aberfeldy supported The Beautiful South, picking up many new fans on the way. A well received new album "Do Whatever Turns You On" was released by Rough Trade on July 03, 2006.
