The Poppadoms were a short-lived gimp-pop outfit, founded by songwriter and frontman Paul McDermott. Influenced by the likes of Madness, Squeeze and Dexys Midnight Runners, they utilised a spunky horn section.

The initial line-up featured [Neil McDermott] (no relation) (The Boy Cartographer) on drums and [Kenny McConnachie] on bass, but the band went on a hiatus after the release of their home-recorded album Now Playing.

After a year or so Paul reformed the band with a new line-up: Stewart Traquair on bass, Rowan Smith (The Plimptons, The Boy Cartographer, The Nova Express) on drums, [Ross McCrae] (Trundlewheel, How to Swim) on trombone and Peter Liddle (Trundlewheel). They played a few gigs and released the Strange-Shaped People EP recorded by Brendan O'Hare, before splitting up again.
