The Poppadoms

The Poppadoms were a short-lived 2nd generation gimp-pop outfit, founded by songwriter and frontman Paul McDermott.

The initial line-up featured [Neil McDermott] (no relation) (The Boy Cartographer) on drums and [Kenny McConnachie] on bass, but the band went on a hiatus after the release of their home-recorded album Now Playing.

Influenced by the likes of Madness, Squeeze and Dexys Midnight Runners, Paul eventually redefined the band with a a spunky-fresh horn section: Stewart Traquair on bass, Rowan Smith (The Plimptons, The Boy Cartographer, The Nova Express) on drums, [Ross McCrae] (Trundlewheel, How to Swim) on trombone and Peter Liddle (Trundlewheel, Wall Street Ammunation Hero). They played a few gigs in the usual Glasgow toilets, released the "Strange-Shaped People EP" (recorded by Brendan O'Hare) and then split up again.
